How to Save TikTok Videos — All Methods Explained
There are several ways to save a TikTok video — some built into the app, others using third-party tools. This guide walks through every method so you can pick the one that works best for you.

Save vs. download: what's the difference?
TikTok uses the word "save" for two different things. Inside the app, tapping the bookmark icon saves the video to your favorites — it stays online and only you can see it. Tapping Share → Save video downloads a copy to your device with the watermark embedded.
Downloading through a tool like TikItDown gives you the original source file without the watermark, saved directly to your device's storage.
Method 1: TikTok's built-in save
- Open the TikTok app and find the video.
- Tap Share (the arrow icon).
- Tap Save video.
- The video downloads to your camera roll or gallery with the TikTok watermark.
This is the simplest method, but it has limitations: the watermark stays on the video, some creators disable saving, and the quality may be lower than the original upload.
Method 2: Using TikItDown (no watermark)
- Open the TikTok app or website and find the video.
- Tap Share, then tap Copy link.
- Paste the link into the TikItDown field above and press Download.
- Choose the download option. The video saves without any TikTok overlay.
This method works on any device and browser. The video is the original source file — no watermark, full quality.
Method 3: Browser download on desktop
- Open tiktok.com in your browser and find the video.
- Copy the URL from the address bar.
- Paste the URL into TikItDown and click Download.
- Right-click the download link and select Save link as... to choose where the file goes.
Method 4: Screen recording (not recommended)
You can use your device's screen recording feature to capture the video as it plays. However, this captures the watermark along with any on-screen elements like notifications and battery icons. The quality also degrades compared to the original file. TikItDown is faster and gives you a cleaner result.
