How to download TikTok videos on Mac
- Open TikTok in your browser and find the video you want to save.
- Click the Share button on the video, then click Copy link.
- Go to TikItDown and paste the link into the input field.

- The video file downloads to your Mac. On Safari, it goes to your Downloads folder by default.

Safari vs Chrome - which browser to use
Both work well, but there are small differences worth knowing:
Safari
- Downloads go to
~/Downloadsby default. You can change this in Safari > Settings > General > File download location. - Safari may ask for permission the first time you download a file. Click Allow and it will not ask again for TikItDown.
- On macOS Sonoma and later, Safari's download manager shows a small progress indicator in the toolbar.
Chrome
- Chrome shows downloads in a bar at the bottom of the window, or in the downloads panel (click the three-dot menu > Downloads).
- Files save to
~/Downloadsby default. Change this in Chrome > Settings > Downloads > Location. - Chrome may flag large downloads with a warning. Click Keep if you see this - the file is safe.
Where your downloads end up on macOS
By default, every browser on Mac saves downloaded files to the Downloads folder in your home directory. You can find it in Finder under Go > Downloads or press Cmd + Shift + L.
If you want to change the save location:
- Safari - Safari > Settings > General > File download location
- Chrome - Chrome > Settings > Downloads > Location
- Firefox - Firefox > Settings > General > Files and Applications > Save files to
Mac-specific tips
- AirDrop - after downloading, right-click the video in Finder and choose Share > AirDrop to send it to your iPhone.
- iMessage - drag the downloaded video from Finder into a Messages conversation to send it directly.
- Quick Look - press Space on any downloaded video in Finder to preview it instantly without opening a media player.
- Storage - if your Mac is low on space, check About This Mac > Storage > Manage to see how much space downloads are using.
